Renton, Wash. – The Puyallup Tribe of Indians will donate $550,000 to the Seattle Seahawks Spirit of 12 Partners, the Seahawks announced today.

The donation will benefit eight local charities who have served or are currently serving as a Seahawks Spirit of 12 Partner: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington State, Camp Fire of Snohomish County, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Rainier Scholars, Special Olympics Washington, Treehouse, and YMCA of Greater Seattle.

“In the old days, in our aboriginal language, we were known as the S’Puyalupubsh, meaning generous and welcoming behavior to all people (friends and strangers) who enter our lands,” said Roleen Hargrove, Vice-Chairwoman, Puyallup Tribe of Indians. “It is with great pride, and boundless excitement that the Puyallup Tribe of Indians will be supporting the Seattle Seahawks Spirit of 12 Partners program. We hope that our donation is able to advance community programming, and create innovative opportunities for children and families throughout our state. The Spirit of 12 Partners program not only generates diverse outlets for personal success, but continues to advance the human spirit. The Puyallup Tribe of Indians humbly thanks the Seattle Seahawks for their steadfast efforts, friendship, and dedication to our community. GO HAWKS!

Launched in 2004, the Spirit of 12 Partners program embodies the Seahawks commitment to the Pacific Northwest and its fans by supporting community-based nonprofits in the State of Washington that focus on the healthy growth of youth through academics, athletics, and character development.
“We are honored and humbled by the generosity of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians,” said Seahawks Vice President of Community Outreach Mike Flood. “The Spirit of 12 Partners program is comprised of local charities who directly impact our youth on a day-to-day basis through a variety of diverse and inventive programs. These funds will help grow these programs, impact more youth and further support the valuable work they are doing in our community.”

Throughout the NFL season, volunteers representing a Spirit of 12 Partner sell the Seahawks Gameday Magazine, keeping 100 percent of the proceeds, which are then matched by The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation.

Now in its 12th year, the program has raised more than $3.5 million for the Spirit of 12 Partners. More than 12,000 volunteers have participated in the program.

The Puyallup Tribe of Indians formed a committee that handles charitable contributions. The name of the fund that houses the funds is called the Puyallup Tribe Charity Trust Fund. For more information, visit www.puyallup-tribe.com.
